Welcome to Hamilton Judo Club
Judo is many things to different people. It is a fun sport, an art, a discipline, a recreational or social activity, a fitness program, a means of self-defense or combat, and a way of life. It is all of these and more.

Judo started out in life as an art called Jujuitsu, meaning "the art of fighting". Where they used weapons such as swords, bows, spears and with their bare hands. However in 1882 a man called Jigora Kano re-thought the techniques of Jujitsu. He took out the use of weapons and also the hand a foot strikes and called the new sport "Judo" which means "the gentle way"

Our aim is make our students as good as they can possibly be at Judo and assist them to develop their own individuality both on and off the mat.
